The Tamaqua Public Library has a hootin’ happy treat in store for children of all ages.
Experts from the Carbon County Environmental Education and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be on hand to introduce real, live owls to visitors at noon Tuesday at the library, at 30 S. Railroad St., Tamaqua.
The real owls will spark excitement and enthusiasm for everyone.
The visiting owls will be species native to Pennsylvania, said the Center’s Chief Naturalist Susan Gallagher.
“The program includes live birds but also things that kids can touch such as feathers and bones.
“We’ll talk about owl adaptations and things people can do to help owls and all wildlife,” she said.
“Owls are birds that hunt other animals for food, so their bodies are designed to help them do that,” Gallagher said. “Adaptations are things like good eyesight and sharp talons.”
She’s looking forward to bringing the birds to the library.
“Our staff enjoys coming out to summer library programs. While we always advocate for kids to spend more time outdoors, if they’re going to be inside, there’s no better place!”
