Plans were announced for the 100th anniversary celebration of the erection of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nesquehoning, by the Rev. Paul Welkie, pastor there and pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Lake Hauto.

The church began at St. Patrick’s and transferred to High Street in 1887 as Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Father Welkie said the celebration will include a Mass to be celebrated by the Rev. John McCann, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McCann, members of the parish.

His Excellency, the Most Rev. Thomas Welsh, Bishop of Allentown, will offer an address to the congregation after Communion.

Following the Mass, parishioners and friends will gather at Memorial Park, Jim Thorpe, for a celebration dinner that will include entertainment by the internationally-known “Irish Balladeers.”
