Carbon County President Judge John P. Lavelle has appointed District Magistrate Joseph M. Sverchek, who sits on cases from Lansford, Summit Hill and Nesquehoning, to temporarily handle cases in the district of retired magistrate Andrew Moisey.

The latter’s district, which faces the cost-saving ax of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, included the boroughs of Beaver Meadows, Weatherly and East Side and the townships of Packer, Lehigh, Lausanne and Banks.

Moisey retired on June 30 of this year after 14 years of service. The other magistrates in the county are Harry Heydt of Jim Thorpe and Willard Steigerwalt of Palmerton.
