Towamensing Township

Towamensing Township supervisors awarded a 3-year contract to Waste Management for dumping at the landfill.

The cost for the first year will be $71 a ton, second year $76.68 a ton and third-year $82.81 a ton.

The township currently does its own trash pickup. There was discussion about the future of the waste transfer station, waste disposal and trash collection. A staff meeting/workshop will be set up to discuss further.

In other business, the Carbon County Fair requested assistance from the Towamensing Fire Police which was approved.

PPL transmission lines may need to be replaced and letters were sent to 700 individuals/offices regarding poles that will not survive the full life cycle.

The township is still patching roads and seal coating will begin on Aug. 6.

The fire company reported 19 calls for the month. A tanker company is coming to repair the tanker truck.

The next meeting of the board of supervisors will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 8.
