Carbon County Controller John R. Williams of Lehighton has announced the appointment of a new auditor in his office at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe.

He is Leonard J. Alabovitz, a Democrat from Summit Hill, who previously served the county as director of the Tax Claim Bureau and Recorder of Deeds offices. Alabovitz is also the mayor of his hometown.

The auditor will be paid an annual stipend of $7,946. His appointment was announced in a letter the controller sent to the Carbon County Board of Commissioners.

Alabovitz will fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Emil Suarez of Palmerton. The latter resigned his post several months ago.
