Three Times News writers took honors Friday in the Philadelphia Press Association, winning three journalism awards for excellence in the Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey region.

Pattie Mihalik, Marigrace Heyer and Donald Serfass were singled out for work produced in 2001, their efforts drawing recognition in two major categories among all newspapers in the tri-state area.

Judges selected the trio’s award-winning series, “Sudden Impact: When one moment in time changes life forever,” for second place in the all-encompassing category of Daily Newspaper Writing.

Mihalik also won a first place award for a Warmest Regards column called “The cheated child,” and Serfass was an honorable mention winner in a Where We Live column entitled “An agonizing weight.”
