Carbon County residents will have the beach area to themselves at Mauch Chunk Lake on the Fourth of July.
On Thursday, the commissioners reminded residents that it has been decided to close down access to the beach to everyone except county residents and those residing in Coaldale within the Panther Valley School District. Campers who rented campsites or cabins are also able to utilize the beach.
Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko said that the parks and recreation commission has again made that recommendation.
In other Mauch Chunk Lake Park matters, Sofranko reminds residents that the first of three movies on the beach nights will take place on Saturday.
“They’re looking at a very good and very successful event,” he said, commending the park for all the planning that has gone into this.
He said in the event of inclement weather, residents should watch social media for any announcements on postponement.
The movies on the beach are one of the activities Mauch Chunk Lake Park is planning as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
