Ruth Lobien of Jim Thorpe, believed to have the longest continuous career as a County of Carbon employee (46 years), was honored Thursday by the Carbon County Board of Commissioners on her pending retirement.
Today is “Ruth Lobien Day” in the county, as proclaimed in a resolution adopted by the board of commissioners in honor of the Summit Hill native.
Lobien is an accountant in the office of Controller Robert M. Crampsie, who presented the resolution to her moments after the commissioners approved it.
She began working for the county on Jan. 10, 1946, initially being a clerk in the office of then Recorder of Deeds Harvey Hiller, later transferring to the commissioners’ office in 1959 before being hired by Controller Allen D. Kistler on Jan. 1, 1960.
