The Lehighton Fire Department announced its new 1,500-gallon-per-minute pumper will be dedicated to the memory of Corvin Solt, who served as fire chief in the community from 1947-72.

The new truck was purchased at a cost of $187,662 from Kovatch Mobile Equipment, Nesquehoning.

The christening of the vehicle will be done by Lynn Solt, son of the late fire chief, after which time members of the department will house the truck in the Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 building.

Besides serving as fire chief for 25 years, Corvin Solt was instrumental in overseeing the department prepare for the future by acquiring state-of-the-art equipment during his tenure, including heading the department when the borough became one of the first towns in the region to have a new aerial truck.
