State police at Fern Ridge - Crashes
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:
• Police said three people were transported by personnel from the West End Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bartonsville, after a two-vehicle crashes at 6:34 p.m. May 21 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.
They included Romello I. Smaltz, 26, of Saylorsburg, and Kelly L. Henderson, 37, of Kunkletown, the drivers of the vehicles, and an infant girl from Kunkletown who was a passenger with Henderson.
Police said the crash occurred when Smaltz, driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, failed to yield when making a left turn and struck a 2018 Nissan Titan driven by Henderson.
Police said Smaltz was cited for “vehicle turning left.”
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:44 a.m. May 24 on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.
Police said it happened when Jesse A. Fishel, 30, of Coalport, driving a 2020 Freightliner box truck, struck the rear passenger side of a 2012 Chevrolet box van operated by Willis A. Sequera Rojan and then traveled down an embankment. The box van began to roll over multiple times and came to rest with its driver’s side down facing west.
Police said the Freightliner sustained minor damages while the Chevrolet had disabling damages that required it to be towed from the scene.
Police said Fishel was cited for the crash.
• Paul D. Fernicola Jr., 44, of Saylorsburg, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 11:44 p.m. April 22 on Kennel Road in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said he was driving a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek southbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The car had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• Carissa N. Burger, 20, of Albrightsville, was uninjured after a one-vehicle crash at 1:14 a.m. May 6 on Stony Mountain Road in Penn Forest Township.
Police said she was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue southbound when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and lost control of the Vue. It spun counter-clockwise and struck a rock embankment and had to be towed from the scene.
Burger was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, police said.
• Annette L. Coyle, 53, of Jim Thorpe, sustained suspected serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 7:05 a.m. June 1 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.
Police said she was driving a 2006 Dodger Ram 1500 pickup south when she lost control of it, causing the truck to roll over onto its passenger side.
The truck was towed from the scene.
Police said Coyle was cited for the crash.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash that involved a state police car at 9:07 a.m. May 30 ion Interstate 80 in Foster Township.
Police said it happened when a 2020 Volvo VNL driven by Louis Rousner, 35, of Thomasville, Georgia, traveling east, failed to maintain its lane of travel and struck the passenger side of a 2021 Ford Explorer operated by Zachary R. Mascelli, 24, of Blakeslee.
Police said Rousner was cited for the crash.
* Police responded to a crash at 4:08 p.m. May 22 at the intersection of Route 115 and the Jonas Road in Chestnuthill Township. No one was injured.
They said a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup operated by Kirsten P. Gray, 33, of Effort, entered the intersection without proper clearance and was struck by a 2015 Ford F-150 driven by James Cerulli, 62, of Larksville.
Police said the Dodge truck did not require towing from the scene but the Ford F-150 was towed.
They said Cerulli felt neck and head pain and was evaluated at the scene by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS unit. He refused to be transported to the hospital.
Police said Gray was cited for the crash.
