A possible tornado was reported in Mahanoy City just before 8 p.m. Monday.

The high winds knocked out power to the west end of the borough, and reportedly ripped roofs from homes and knocked down trees.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning to residents of the borough and surrounding areas Monday evening.

Social media posts from residents show the funnel cloud hovering above the borough.

The Mahanoy Area School District is closed Tuesday due to the storm damage.
