Fern Ridge state police release information on crashes
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:
• No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 12:16 a.m. May 13 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
Police said it happened when a 2023 Toyota Crown driven westbound by Zhen Ma, 47, of Dallas, Pa, stopped in the right lane of travel for unknown reasons and was struck from behind by a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Gerald D. Bartlett, 70, of Bristol. Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages.
Ma was cited for the crash police said.
• Police said a bear that was crossing Interstate 80 in Kidder Township at midnight May 13 caused a crash resulting in two vehicles being damaged.
They said Peter Leutz, 53, of Lynnwood, Washington, was driving a 2024 Freightliner that struck the bear, after which time a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Md S. Haque, 22, of Hamtramck, Michigan, struck it. The Freightliner sustained minor damaged while the Jeep had disabling damages, police said.
• Two drivers had minor injuries in a crash at 1:41 p.m. May 15 at the intersection of Neola and Smith Hill roads in Jackson Township.
Police said Christopher F. Colonna, 49, of Tobyhanna, and George M. Abline, 69, of Stroudsburg, were not transported to a medical facility after the incident.
It happened when Colonna, driving a 2016 Subaru Impreza attempted to make a left turn onto the Neola Road from Smith Hill Road and continued without proper clearance. The Subaru was struck by a 2021 Nissan Rogue operated by Albine. Police said the Rogue was towed from the scene. They said Colonna was cited for not “restraint systems.”
• No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 1:51 p.m. May 13 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said it happened when a 2020 Kia Sportage operated by Ashley N. Capone, 23, of Saylorsburg, slowed down and was struck from behind by a 2018 Buick Encore driven by Joan A. Gussett, 82, of Stroudsburg.
• Yi D. Sheng, 40, of Columbus, Ohio, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 11:04 p.m. April 9 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
Police said he was not transported from the scene after a 2023 Toyota Rav4 he was driving westbound left the roadway and entered a brushy area, striking a tree with its front end.
Police said he suffered a minor facial injury that did not require emergency medical services.
The car was towed from the scene.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle mishap at 1:28 p.m. May 1 on Mountain Road in Penn Forest Township.
Police said it happened when a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox operated westbound by Paul D. Gilliam, 39, of Albrightsville, traveled into the eastbound lane and struck a 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Stephen A. Korte, 48, also of Albrightsville.
Police said the Equinox became partially disabled on Mountain Road and on the south roadside, and was able to be driven from the scene, while the Outback had to towed from the scene.
Police said Gilliam was cited for failure to drive on the right side of the road.
