Turnpike crashes
State police at the Pocono barracks reported on the following crashes that took place on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• Police said an unknown vehicle struck roadway equipment in the area of mile marker 87 in Penn Forest Township.
They said a motorist reported the message sign board had damage to its frame and the left-side tire and rim of the trailer on which it was mounted.
The incident was reported at 12:50 p.m. May 11.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 12:40 p.m. May 10 at mile marker 67.1 in Washington Township.
Police said it happened when Dominique A. Jacobs, 26, of White Haven, was driving a 2008 Infiniti southbound and was passing a 2024 International Harvester operated by John S. Jeziorski, 57, also of White Haven. They said the passenger-side front tire of the Infiniti struck the driver’s side front hub of the Harvester, after which time it struck the center concrete barrier.
The Infiniti sustained heavy damages and was towed from the scene.
Police said a steady rainfall may have contributed to the crash.
• Denise M. Mongiello, 59, of Howell, New Jersey, had minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 11:40 p.m. April 30 at mile marker 80.6 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said she had a leg injury and was transported by personnel from the Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem.
Police said she was driving a 2022 Honda northbound and was negotiating a left curve in the road as she began to overtake a 2014 Volvo operated by Jeffrey Valdez, 27, of West Hazleton. Police said the Honda struck the trailer portion of the Volvo and then hit the center concrete barrier. It was towed from the scene. The trailer sustained minor damages.
Police said Mongiello was cited for the crash.
• A 2024 Acura driven by an Albrightsville man sustained damages when it was struck by a vehicle that left the scene of the incident at 7:57 p.m. April 30 in the area of mile marker 57 in South Whitehall Township. Police said Gregg W. Martens Jr., 40, was uninjured in the incident.
They said the unknown vehicle drifted into his lane and struck the Acura, which then struck the center concrete barrier. The Acura was towed from the scene, police said.
