Fire companies from West Penn, Tamaqua and Mahoning township responded to a brush fire Tuesday afternoon in West Penn Township. The fire was reported around 2 p.m. along the west berm of Route 309, about a mile south of Tamaqua. The fire quickly spread fanned by high winds between the Schuylkill River and Route 309.
