A Weatherly man faces criminal charges for strangling a man with a towel at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton Monday night.
Jacob Goralewski, 27, was charged with strangulation, aggravated assault and simple assault and committed to the Luzerne County prison in Wilkes-Barre in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Hazleton police said they responded at 11:21 p.m. to the hospital for a report of a disorderly man attacking hospital staff. Other staff members removed Goralewski from the man before police arrived.
Police then learned that Goralewski, a patient, attacked a technical partner by wrapping a towel around his neck and choking him so that he could not breathe, officers said.
Officers took Goralewski into custody without incident and transported him back to the police station after he was medically cleared.
District Judge Joseph J. Carmody arraigned Goralewski on Tuesday.
