CCEEC events

Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill has announced the following events. Registration for events are taken by phone. Call 570-645-8597.

CCEEC is located at 151 E. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill. The center building is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.

Photo Contest and Display

Entries into CCEEC’s annual photo contest are on display throughout the month of March. Visitors are invited to vote for “People’s Choice” from among photos in landscape, wildlife, and macro categories.

Exhibit is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Yarn Tuesdays

Yarn Tuesdays is held from 6-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday in March. Participants can come learn to knit or crochet with all materials supplied, or bring their own project and enjoy the company of fellow crafters. A $15 donation covers all sessions. Light refreshments provided.

Bird Brains

A program called “Bird Brains” will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Participants will learn about backyard birds, play a few games, and meet one of the CCEEC’s resident owls. The program is family-friendly, suitable for all ages, and free of charge.

Nature Club

Formerly known as “Ranger Rick,” the Nature Club is open to all students in grades Kindergarten through sixth.

Each meeting begins with club business. The afternoon concludes with hikes, games, or other nature-oriented activities.

Upcoming meeting are from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on March 17, April 21 and May 29.

Creepy Crawlers

Open to all 2, 3 and 4-year-olds, Creepy Crawlers focuses on some aspect of the natural world. They are held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the fourth Monday of each month.

Children participate in age-appropriate games, crafts, stories and other activities.

Upcoming meeting is March 25: “Who Lives in a Tree?”
