A framed Certificate of Commendation has been presented by the Pennsylvania Fish Commission, Bureau of Waterways, Harrisburg, to the Carbon County Civilian Defense Rover Rescue Unit.

Fritz Ohlsen, Jim Thorpe, waterways patrolman for the state agency, made the presentation of the Boating Safety Award to Nick Kuzo, Jim Thorpe, commander of the river rescue unit. Other officers of the unit are Raymond Joseph, chief of rescue services, Joseph Kuzo, captain, and Alton Johnson, lieutenant.

Ohlsen, pointing out the popularity of the river for canoeing, rafting and kayaking, noted the county unit has been relentless in its 24-hour call service to assist those in need on the river.
