Police charge man after hospital incident

Coaldale police filed a number of charges against a Montgomery County man following an Oct. 31 incident at St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale.

Police said Musain Wakil, 40, of Elkins Park, struck a hospital security guard, refused to provide his identity and was unruly while in the hospital’s emergency department.

At 12:51 a.m., officers were alerted that Tamaqua EMS was transporting an intoxicated and unruly man to the hospital.

The man, later identified as Wakil, refused to provide his name and was yelling at a doctor. Police said the doctor told Wakil that he wasn’t permitted to leave the emergency room until someone sober came for him. Upon hearing this, Wakil became more irate and yelled at cursed at staff.

Police said Wakil exited the building and stood in the ambulance bay, despite staff trying to convince him to go back inside. Police then told Wakil to leave the restricted area and informed him that it can be dangerous due to ambulance traffic. Officers eventually moved Wakil to the emergency department, where he continued yelling and disturbing patients.

Police told Wakil that he would be charged with disorderly conduct but he would not provide his name so officers could fill out a citation. Police then contacted the Weatherly Police Department for its mobile live scan. Wakil was told he was not allowed to leave the hospital until the live scan arrived. Police said Wakil then got up from his hospital bed and threatened to “beat up” those around him. Wakil pushed a security guard in an attempt to move him.

Police then advised Wakil that he was under arrest and handcuffed him. While waiting for the live scan, Wakil’s brother-in-law arrived.

Officers asked the brother-in-law to provide the man’s name but he asked to speak to hospital staff and Wakil first. Wakil then told police that his name was “Muhammad Wakil,” which was false but officers were able to locate his real name with his birth date and last name.

On Jan. 17, Coaldale police charged Wakil with harassment-physical strike/kick, simple assault, providing false identification to law enforcement officers, and disorderly conduct.
