Termini resigns as Palmerton boys’ basketball coach

Ken Termini announced his resignation Thursday morning as Palmerton Area High School boys’ basketball coach, citing differences between coaches, players and parents.
“Unfortunately, disagreements between players, parents, and coaches occur,” Termini said in a statement. “Most school districts – including Palmerton – have policies in place on how to address these difficult, but not uncommon situations. While it’s disappointing the district did not follow their policies in my case, I have always put the team and the program first, and that’s not going to change.”
The resignation comes two days after a group of Palmerton players attended a district school board meeting to address what they described as repeated mental abuse.
“Over the past eight years, it’s been my honor to lead the Palmerton boys basketball program,” Termini said. “Thanks to the hard work of countless players and assistant coaches, the program is in a much better position today than it was in 2016. I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience, and I’m proud of what we have accomplished together.”
Termini won his 100th game as a Bomber coach earlier this month against Moravian Academy.
“Over nearly a decade of time, I’ve come into contact with hundreds of Palmerton players, parents, coaches, trainers, administrators, and fans, and I am grateful to all of them,” he said. “My immediate priority is ensuring the team and student-athletes successfully finish the season. Therefore, I have resigned as Palmerton’s boys basketball coach effective immediately. I wish everyone in #BomberNation nothing but success.”
Palmerton is scheduled to host Northwestern today at 6:45. Junior varsity coach Joe Egan will be at the helm of the varsity for the game.
“While I can’t say I’m pleased by this course of events, I hold no grudges toward anyone,” Termini said. “I don’t know what’s next for me, but I do know God always has a plan. I trust His plan will become clear to me soon.”
