State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following:
• Brian J. Belletz, 65, of McAdoo, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:37 p.m. Jan. 11 on Claremont Avenue in Rush Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. Police said the severity of his injuries is unknown.
They said he was driving a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek northbound when he had a medical event and lost control of the vehicle. It struck a snow bank off the right side of the roadway and was towed from the scene.
• Jenys M. Colon-Amaro, 39, of Reading, and Michael Colon Colon, 19, were injured in a three-vehicle crash at 5:40 a.m. Jan. 12 on Claremont Avenue in Rush Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. Police said the severity of his injuries is unknown.
Police said the crash occurred when a 2008 Toyota Tacoma operated by Osmi O. Lopez Herrera, 32, of Birmingham, Alabama, and a 2008 Mazda driven by Colon-Amaro were northbound in the right lane of Claremont Avenue. They told police an unknown vehicle traveling south was turning onto Tide Road and entered the path of the Tacoma, prompting Lopez Herrera to brake, at which time the Tacoma was struck from behind by the Mazda, kin which Colon Colon was a passenger. Police said the unknown vehicle fled the scene.
Police said the Tacoma had minor damages while the Mazda had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:27 a.m. Jan. 12 on Route 924 in East Union Township.
Police said it happened when Valerie Hierro, 29, of Hazleton, driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was northbound and the Jeep hit a large patch of ice on the roadway. It slid off the roadway, striking an embankment and was towed from the scene.
• Police were summoned to a hit-and-run at 4:51 p.m. Jan. 6 at the intersection of Goose Pond and Hillside roads in East Brunswick Township.
They said a Ford F-150 traveling north on Goose Pond Road attempted to turn right onto Hillside Road. The driver lost control of the truck, traveled off the road and struck a stop sign.
Police said the driver got of the truck to look at the damage, and then went back in the truck and left the scene.
• Injuries were averted in a two-vehicle crash at 1:59 p.m. Jan. 11 on Lincoln Drive in Rush Township.
Police it involved a 2019 Jeep Compass operated by Ruth J. Balliet, 83, of Mahanoy City, and a 2009 Toyota RAV4 driven by Linda A. Flamini, 64, of New Ringgold. They did not provide any further details of the incident.
• Isaiah A. Stewart, 19, of Shenandoah, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 9 on Route 61 in Blythe Township.
Police said he was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima northbound when the car approached a boulder in the road. They said due to adverse weather and lighting conditions, the driver was unable to avoid striking the boulder and it became lodged under the vehicle. The Altima was towed from the scene.
• Carlos R. Perez, 34, of Wilson, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:06 a.m. Jan. 9 on Valley Road in Cass Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Minersville EMS unit to a local hospital to be treated for suspected minor injuries.
Police said he was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger westbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when he lost control of the vehicle. It exited the lane of travel, went across the eastbound lane and crashed into a concrete wall off the road.
Police said the vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
Perez was cited for the crash.
• Charolyn Vicioso Abreau, 24, of Shenandoah, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 10:36 a.m. Jan. 9 on the Burma Road in Blythe Township. She was uninjured.
Police said she was driving a 2022 Toyota RAV4 southbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when she lost control of the vehicle. It exited its lane, traveled across the northbound land and crashed into a utility pole on the northbound shoulder of the road.
Police said live wires were brought down and laid across the northbound lane, causing the road to be closed for about four hours.
The RAV4 sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• A 16-year-old Tamaqua boy was cited for a stop sign violation after a two-vehicle mishap at 7:42 a.m. Jan. 10 at the intersection of Route 209 and Catawissa Street in Schuylkill Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry east on Catawissa Street when he stopped at a stop sign and then pulled out in front of a 2023 Nissan Sentra operated by Kerry L. House, 49, of Port Carbon, who was southbound on Route 209 at the time, casing the collision.
Police said the Camry was able to be driven from the scene while the Sentra required towing.
• Manuel A, Caraballo, 19, of Mahanoy City, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 7:24 p.m. Jan. 9 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2004 Honda HRV southbound and was actively passing a 2019 Ford F-150 operated by Matthew R. Madden, 35, of Lake Ariel, when it began to hydroplane. The Honda crossed into the lane of the truck, whose operator swerved into the left lane to avoid the crash. Police said the Honda bounced off the guide rails and ultimately struck the Ford, which spun clockwise and struck a guide wire.
Police said both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
