Tamaqua reminds residents about snow removal
Tamaqua residents are reminded to clear their sidewalks after all snowstorms.
Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt said residents are given 24 hours to tend to their walkways. Otherwise, they face a fine.
“After the last storm, our code enforcement officers were handing out tickets,” Steigerwalt said during Tuesday’s borough council meeting.
Residents are also asked to clear snow around fire hydrants and around drains.
They’re also advised to be aware of “no parking” signs that are posted for snow removal.
During his report to council, Steigerwalt added that Tuesday’s trash collection was bumped to today, and all recycling will be picked up Saturday.
Residents should have received calls about the changes. Those who did not and would like to register for important borough announcements can visit the borough’s website at www.tamaquaborough.com, click on “Alert Me,” and enter their information on the CodeRed link.
In an unrelated matter, Jay Stidham, public works director, said the borough will continue replacing defective streetlights.
The lights are turning purple because of a manufacturing glitch.
“The new streetlights will be delivered tomorrow,” he said.
The lights will be switched out as time and weather permits, he said.
Stidham also said a water runoff problem near Lehigh Carbon Community College will be addressed in the spring. Residents have reported water problems in the area following precipitation.
Stidham said college officials said a contractor will scrape down an embankment and line it with stones.
