Tamaqua woman helps organize student pre-med conference at Misericordia

The Misericordia University American Medical Student Association Club recently hosted its annual pre-medical conference, "From the Classroom to Life Flight: Medical Technology," for high school and college students who are interested in a career in medicine.

Alexandra Wagner of Tamaqua is president of the student association.The student-organized conference hosted keynote speaker Samuel J. Slimmer, M.D., associate staff physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Dr. Slimmer also serves Geisinger as the associate residency program director for emergency medicine and assistant medical director of Geisinger Life Flight.The conference addressed premedical programs and medical opportunities in various career fields, what to expect as an undergraduate student, student research technology, and an overview of the Misericordia University physician assistant and premedical programs.U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jason M. DiGangi,commander of the Wilkes-Barre Medical Recruiting Station, and AnthonySerino, Ph.D., associateprofessor of biology and premedical adviser atMisericordia University, also spoke at the event.
