Monroe woman charged in 4-year-old girl's oxycodone death

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Prosecutors in northeastern Pennsylvania are charging a woman in the death of a 4-year-old girl after a coroner determined she received a lethal dose of the painkiller oxycodone.

Mary Winbush was arraigned Tuesday in a Monroe County district court on 24 counts, including various drug charges and involuntary manslaughter.

The Pocono Record reports (http://bit.ly/1wB2AsE ) that Winbush told investigators she had been treating the girl's fever with amoxicillin in May when the girl didn't wake up. Police found oxycodone pills in her East Stroudsburg apartment.

Winbush told a grand jury that she didn't give the painkiller to the girl.

The 57-year-old Winbush had been living with her grandchildren and the 4-year-old girl. Police say the girl's mother had given her as an infant to Winbush to raise.
