RSVP program in Carbon seeks volunteer help

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Carbon County is dedicated to providing help where help is needed in our communities. People over the age of 55 can make a difference in the services provided by non-profit agencies, and in the lives of people they serve, by putting their talents and time to good use.

Presently, there is a need for volunteer help with daily activities such as arts, crafts, singing, games, and mealtimes at an adult day care center in the Palmerton area. Also needed are people to deliver home delivered meals in the Lansford, Summit Hill, Nesquehoning area. These meals are already prepared, packed and ready for delivery to area shut-ins who are no longer able to prepare and shop for food on their own. Mileage reimbursement provided by Carbon County Area Agency on Aging is available to volunteers who engage in this very important community service.Sewers are always needed by local sewing groups who meet weekly to make lap robes and knotted quilts to give to nursing homes, disaster relief or wherever most needed.RSVP has many other volunteer opportunities at libraries, food pantries, the BenefitsCheckUp program, hospitals, thrift shops, Volunteer Home Care, and through the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging in their Apprise counseling and Ombudsman programs and at other non-profit organizations throughout Carbon County. RSVP is part of Senior Corps of Pennsylvania. For more information, call Jean at (610) 377-2021.Also call if your group or gathering wishes to have a speaker come and talk about all the services that are provided by volunteers in the county.
