On Friday the residents at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown were treated to an afternoon of wagging tails, purrs and lots of fur.
The home held its eighth annual Pet Show, which was open to the community. The event attracted 14 dogs, three cats, three rabbits and two guinea pigs.Area community members enjoyed showing off their animals for fun and for some friendly competition.Animals were judged in five categories: smallest; biggest; most talented; costume; and pet/owner look-a-like.This year the event included a collection for Waggin' Tails Pet Rescue, while visitors enjoyed seeing some of the dogs that are currently up for adoption. The personal care home wanted to thank its sponsor, The Barking Lot, for its many donations.Carrie Shafer, activities director, says that pets provide many benefits to the health and well-being of people.Pets may help:• lower blood pressure and pulse rate;• lessen depression;• seniors become more active;• provide affection and unconditional love;• ease loss of a loved one and friends;• fight loneliness;• help seniors take better care of themselves;• provide a sense of security. Those are just some of the reasons why pets are always welcomed at Mrs. Bush's.
