State police fire marshal Thomas Jones ruled Friday that a fire that destroyed the Gilbert Inn at Gilbert last week was caused by arson.

The six-alarm fire spotted early Wednesday morning broke out a month before the building was scheduled to be sold at a sheriff's auction following the mortgage foreclosure.
