Today would be a good day to be a duck.
Many woke up this morning to heavy, steady rain throughout the TIMES NEWS coverage area.Because of this, students were forced to stand in the rain as they waited for their buses; motorists needed to be extra cautious during their morning commutes; and schools postponed outdoor sporting events, like the District 11 Class AA and AAA Doubles Tennis Tournament, that were scheduled for this afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the region, which is in effect until noon Thursday. Forecasts project that three inches or more of rain will fall before the storm pushes through Thursday afternoon. Thunderstorms are also possible tonight. The steady rain may cause streams and rivers to flood in areas and cause some localized flooding along roadways.Because of this possibility, take caution when driving; allow extra time and never drive on roadways where a creek or river has flooded over the embankment because even though the water may not look deep, it will still have a current and can be dangerous. Also, remember, in Pennsylvania, it is illegal to drive without headlights when windshield wipers are in use; and you can be cited if you don't.Following the storm, there are slight chances of showers Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but other than that, the weekend is expected to be partly sunny with temperatures in the low- to mid-60s.Hopefully these April showers -- or downpours in today's case -- will bring May flowers soon.
