Tamaqua Hunger Campaign raises $17K, distributes food

The Tamaqua Hunger Campaign this year raised $17,000 and collected over 160 bags/boxes of food distributed to Tamaqua’s four food pantries.

“We are grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s campaign,” Originator Paul Dodson said.

In addition to food collection and donations, the campaign included a community soup sale, a dine out against hunger day and a community walk.

The Beacon Diner in Hometown and Tommy’s Italian Specialty Shop in Tamaqua hosted a dine-out day. M&T Bank and St. Luke’s University Health Network offered corporate support.

Judy Hoppes, St. John UCC, and Paulette Lacross, American Primitive Methodist Church, and Maureen Donovan, St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, assisted in planning, organizing and conducting this year’s campaign.

People considering volunteering for the 2024 campaign are encouraged to contact George Taylor at gtay200@verizon.net or leave a message at 570-668-4451.

The hunger campaign is a project of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, a gathering of lay volunteers from Tamaqua area congregations.

TAFFN is a 501 3c non-profit operating under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, Micah Gursky, director.
