That describes Zoostock, the annual Labor Day, outdoor party at the Sports Zoo in Lansford which raises a lot of money for the Carbon-Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society.Thousands attended the 11th all-day event yesterday and organizers deemed it a great success.There were eight different bands who donated their services for the event. French fries were available. The Parrot Heads served hamburgers and other food items.Lisa Hiles, an organizer, said the entire event is planned and run by volunteers. The grounds for the event were provided by Jesse Hiles, owner of the Sports Zoo.Everybody was in a festive mood. There was a 50-50 drawing held in which $250 was gathered for the prize. The unidentified winner kept $50 and donated the remaining $200 to the cause.Bands which performed were Leighann Burke (of the former YMI), Cody Sassaman, Colin Jones, Brad and Luke & the Jersey Cartwrights, Story of Another, Cameltoe, Asking Andy, and Shoot the Moon.Zoostock was for people of all ages. Keith Hoppes, lead singer for Asking Andy, invited a bunch of youngsters to come onto the stage while he performed.There was face painting and other activities for the children.Pets were also welcome and several people brought them to the event. Matt Tirpak had his dog, Ebon, wearing the annual commemorative T-shirt."It's a fun event," said Trish Morrison of Bethlehem, who said she has friends in the Panther Valley and has been attending Zoostock for a number of years. "You get to see a lot of people you haven't talked with in a long time and you can really have a great time. Plus, it's for a good cause."Serving as the emcee was Ann Marie Calabrese.Last year, the Zoo Crew, which puts together Zoostock, raised $26,000 for the ACS through Zoostock and related events.
