The Salvation Army’s Tamaqua service center is hoping to make Christmas morning joyful for children of needy families.
But at the moment, officials are worried that they won’t be able to fill all children’s wish lists.
“We are in desperate need of donors,” said Jael Houser, office and case manager for the Tamaqua site.
The Army’s Angel Tree program, she said, has requests from 800 children this year.
“We have about 200 more tags that need to go out,” Houser said. She’s hoping that individuals, families, businesses and organizations will help.
The “tags” that decorate Angel Trees at Walmart stores in Lehighton and Hometown contain a child’s name, age, and their requests for clothing or toys.
Individuals pluck a tag from the tree, then shop for the items. Both stores have boxes where items can be dropped.
Those who are unable to visit the stores can participate by contacting the Salvation Army at 570-668-0410 or The Salvation Army Tamaqua Service Center page on Facebook.
Businesses or organizations wishing to donate a larger quantity of toys and clothing suitable for those ages 0 to 12 may call Houser at 570-668-0410.
Checks may also be made to the Salvation Army and sent to the service center at 246 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, PA, 18252.
All donations stay in the area.
