Beaver Meadows man charged with assaulting officers

A Beaver Meadows man has been charged with assaulting officers following a domestic dispute.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Pennsylvania State Police, Hazleton barracks, in the case against Kimberlin De La Rosa Reyes:

At 9:08 p.m. Nov. 12, troopers were dispatched to Penrose Street, Beaver Meadows, for a report of a man acting out.

Three troopers responded to this incident due to past call history.

Reyes, 28, was standing on a small porch, leaning over the railing banging on two garbage cans. His father heard the commotion and opened the front door and attempted to calm him down.

Reyes then attempted to grab his father and pull him off the porch and onto the driveway/roadway area.

Troopers managed to get him away from his father and off the porch.

Reyes then swung at the trooper and struck him on the right jaw with his fist.

Troopers attempted to take Reyes into custody, but he kept swinging his arms and legs. Once Reyes’ hands were behind his back, he kicked another trooper in the thigh.

Lehigh Valley EMS was requested and subsequently responded to the scene.

Reyes was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton, for a mental health evaluation.

The trooper who was struck was treated and released at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton for a mild concussion, pain, and swelling to his right jaw.

The trooper who was kicked had pain but denied medical treatment.

Reyes faces charges on three counts of simple assault; two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of resisting arrest.

Reyes is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, with bail denied, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 13 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
