Work began recently to replace shower houses at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville.
To start the project, crews are clearing trees around a shower house in the park’s tenting-only area. The other facility is in the modern-electric campsite area.
Wesley Robinson, Department of Conservation and Environmental Resources spokesman, said full hookups will also be added to a number of electric campsites.
While the camping season is over for 2023, the work could impact some campsites’ availability when overnight stays begin in the spring.
Robinson said that while construction is underway, visitors should not enter any work areas.
Barricades and detour signs have been posted along the bike trail to direct walkers and bikers away from the work zone.
