A 200-bed emergency hospital unit owned by the Carbon County Civil Defense is being moved from Lansford to the county home near Weatherly. This is one of two units in the county.
Civil Defense Director William Schmidt of Jim Thorpe reported the transfer is being made to give the northern section of the county the benefit of having an emergency hospital unit in the event of a disaster.
The unit is presently being stored in the former main office building of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co., Lansford. The second unit is in storage in the county courthouse in Jim Thorpe.
The units contain operating tables, blankets, pillows, electric generating apparatus, X-ray machines, 200 folding cots and other emergency equipment.
