A domestic incident triggered a dog into attacking three young women in a Tamaqua apartment building Saturday, borough police said.
According to police, officers had to use a stun gun on the dog four times until it was brought under control.
Police said they were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at an apartment on the 400 block of West Broad Street at 7:39 p.m. A woman met them outside and said another woman in the building was in a fight with an ex-boyfriend. Officers found the woman on an outside porch but said she was acting “hysterical.” Police learned that she was attacked by a dog inside the apartment. The woman had bite marks on her arms and body so police called emergency medical responders.
As police were speaking to the woman, they heard screaming inside the apartment. Police said the dog had locked itself onto the arm of the first woman they were speaking to.
Police deployed the stun gun to get the dog to release her arm but it went after the woman again. Police again used the Taser but the dog continued to chase the woman. Officers used the stun gun a third time to no avail. After the fourth time, police were able to get the dog into a locked room.
Officers went to check on the first victim and found that her roommate was also attacked by the dog. Police requested a second EMS to treat the additional two victims, and called a Walker Township police officer to assist.
Police said the first victim was arguing with her ex-boyfriend when she was attacked. Police aren’t sure why the second and third attacks took place.
