PBS hosts ‘Country Music’ film Tuesday

PBS39 is hosting a screening and panel discussion of the soon-to-be-released documentary series “Country Music” by documentarian Ken Burns.

This free event, presented by PBS39 and partners Penn’s Peak, CAT Country 96 and ArtsQuest, will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.

There will be a reception with light refreshments for all participants from 6-7 p.m. in the Connect Zone of the ArtsQuest Center.

The screening, featuring scenes and interviews from across the eight-episode series, will begin at 7:15 in the Cinema.

A panel discussion moderated by Jerry Padden from CAT Country 96, will follow. Dick Boak, retired artist relations manager from C.F. Martin & Co. and contributor to this documentary, will be a featured panelist.

“Country Music” is a 16-hour documentary series featuring never-before-seen footage, photographs and interviews with more than 80 country music artists.

The series will explore questions such as “What is country music?” and “Where did it come from?” while focusing on the biographies of the fascinating characters who created and shaped the genre.

Artists such as the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks and many more will be featured in the series.

“Country Music” will premiere on PBS39 at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20. The full series will also be available to stream on PBS39 Passport beginning Sept. 15.
