Lehighton man faces charges for car shooting

A Lehighton man faces multiple charges after an unoccupied vehicle was shot at in East Penn Township last month.

Nathan M. Miller, 23, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of possession of a firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license, criminal mischief, criminal solicitation, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license.

District Judge Casimir Kosciolek set bail at $50,000, and Miller was lodged in the Carbon County prison in Nesquehoning in lieu of bail.

According to arrest papers, state police investigated a vehicle being shot at 51 Bowmans Road on Sept. 27.

A witness told troopers that a man, later identified as Miller, showed up on a motorcycle at that address, argued with a resident, fired a pistol at the vehicle parked at the address around 8:15 a.m., and fled, court papers said.

Troopers also spoke to the residents at 51 Bowmans Road, one of whom said he exchanged words with Miller, who then fired shots at the vehicle, which belongs to the man’s girlfriend.

The owner of the car that was struck told troopers that she woke up to the sound of gunshots, and saw the motorcycle leaving, court papers said. She believed this happened because she rejected Miller’s advances, court papers said.

Another person inside the residence told troopers that Miller called him, and asked him to retrieve the bullet casings, court papers said. The man did not comply with the request, court papers said.

Troopers were unable to locate and interview Miller following the incident. Investigators learned that Miller, who had a felony conviction for drugs, was not permitted to possess a firearm, and his license was suspended, court papers said.
