Three Carbon nonprofits to compete for $4,000 grant

Three nonprofit organizations will compete for a $4,000 grant at the 20/20 Circle annual meeting next week, hosted by the Carbon County Community Foundation.

Representatives from Nesquehoning Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church, Peaceful Knights, and the Penn Kidder Ministerium After School Program will present their grant proposals for projects they hope to complete in the next year.

Following the presentations, 20/20 Circle members will have 24 hours to submit their votes to decide which organization receives the grant.

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at the American Legion. It is free to attend for current and prospective 20/20 Circle members, but registration is requested.

Interested attendees can learn more and RSVP online at www.cccfoundpa.org or by contacting the Carbon County Community Foundation at 610-730-2526. For those who are unable to attend in person, the program will be livestreamed on the Community Foundation’s Facebook page and the video will be available following the program.

The 20/20 Circle, established at the Community Foundation in 2018, is made up of individuals and businesses who pool their philanthropic dollars and work together to have a positive impact on the region, year after year. Members make a one-time contribution of $1,000 to the endowed 20/20 Fund at the Community Foundation. Membership is payable over up to four years.

This year’s grant finalists were selected from a group of 31 applicants. Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church in Nesquehoning hopes to use the 20/20 Circle grant to support its children’s summer lunch program which offers free lunches to local children for 10 weeks in summer. Last year, 1,500 meals were served. This grant will buy the food and supplies.

Peaceful Knights Inc. is requesting the grant for the new women’s emergency shelter in Lehighton, which is under construction and expected to be complete next month. The shelter will require furnishing before opening.

Penn-Kidder Ministerium After-School Program offers before and after-school care through its KidZone program in the Jim Thorpe School District.
