115th Northern Lehigh Halloween parade is Saturday

The 115th annual Greater Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is Sunday.

The parade begins at Victory Park, Washington Township, and proceeds down Main Street in Slatington into Walnutport.

Tiffany Rehrig-Schaeffer, Northern Lehigh Events Committee co-chair, said this year’s theme is “Fairytales.”

Rehrig-Schaeffer said they will again recognize the top entries in Small/Large Group, Small/Large Float, and Individual categories.

She said the entry with the overall highest score in any division will be awarded the Judges’ Award, which is presented in memory of Russell and Forrest Hallman.

“Every year, we see an increase in participants,” Rehrig-Schaeffer said. “We currently have 45 registered entries for this year’s parade.”

She said that includes some returning favorites like Rhythm & Sole Dance Center, along with NLYAA Soccer.

Rehrig-Schaeffer said new entries include Country Junction, as well as this year’s Great Allentown Fair Queen, Kamryn Fink.

In addition, she said there will be four bands, including the Northern Lehigh Band, Northwestern High School Band, Fralinger String Band from Philadelphia, and the return of Celtic United Pipes & Drums.

“The weather is supposed to be beautiful on Saturday, so we are anticipating a great crowd turnout,” she said.

The Rotary Club of Slatington and Giant Food Store of Walnutport are collecting monetary or nonperishable goods during the parade.

Spectators are asked for nonperishable goods and monetary donations for the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.

Anyone who would like to make donations before the parade, may contact usa1eric@ptd.net.

Rehrig-Schaeffer said that anyone with questions or who would like to get involved with next year’s parade can contact her at 484-619-0140.
