• The Schuylkill County Historical Society will hold its Haunted History tours on Oct. 28.
The Baber Cemetery tour will begin at 5:45 p.m. at 14th and Market streets, Pottsville. The downtown Pottsville tour will begin at 8 p.m. at the society, 305 N. Centre St. For fee information and reservations, which are required, contact the society at 570-622-7540.
• Former Shenandoah Herald and Danville News writer John H. Paul III will discuss and sign copies of “Instigations of the Devil,” his book about two alleged lovers in Danville who were hanged in 1858 for their spouses’ deaths, at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 25, at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.
Paul, who says his research shows the two were innocent of both adultery and murder, is petitioning the state to pardon them.

• The Local Reads book club will discuss “Appalachian: Schaumboch’s Tavern” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26, at Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville. The book by James Wosochlo Jr. is based on the true story of a man believed to be the first American serial killer.
