Carbon County has always shown its appreciation for veterans. It also shows it cares for dogs.
So in honor of man’s best friend and veteran appreciation, the Carbon County Commissioners approved a request by the Carbon County Animal Shelter to set November as Veterans Appreciation month.
This means that any person who served in the military and is looking for their next dog can adopt at the shelter during November for $50 instead of the regular $100 adoption fee.
As of Thursday, the shelter had 18 dogs under their care, which is above normal capacity.
Staff hopes that this discount will help some of the pooches find new forever homes.
Veterans interested in adopting a dog can call the shelter at 570-325-4828 and schedule a time to visit. The shelter is located off the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning at 63 Broad St., Route 93.
