Turnpike incidents
State police at the Pocono barracks reported incidents on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle mishap at 5:42 p.m. Sept. 7 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
It happened at mile marker 96.7 in Kidder Township.
Police said Terri L. Mack, 37, of Cameron, North Carolina, was driving a 2014 Honda Pilot northbound in the left lane of traffic when it lost traction, veered east and struck an embankment on the road shoulder.
Police said she was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
• Keith S. Reed, 42, of Weissport, was uninjured when a 2010 Infiniti he was driving struck a deer at 10:09 p.m. Oct. 15 at mile marker 103.5 in Bear Creek Township.
Police said he was southbound when the deer entered the roadway. The car had damages to its passenger-side front grill, headlight assembly, bumper, fender and radiator and was towed from the scene, police said.
• Julia J. Turner, 46, of Albrightsville, was injured when her car hit a deer at 4:59 a.m. Oct. 14 at mile marker 84.1 in Penn Forest Township. She was driving a 2007 Ford Focus.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, after the incident.
• Thomas P. Fatuova, 24, of Hoboken, New Jersey, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 16 at mile marker 81.9 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said he was driving a 2016 Mercedes-Benz southbound when he lost control of the vehicle and its driver side struck the center concrete barrier. The car traveled across the roadway where its front-end struck a guide rail before spinning across the roadway and coming to rest in the left lane facing the wrong way.
• Two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:44 p.m. Oct. 14 at mile marker 83.1 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said Crista J. Urda, 47, and Christopher L. Urda, 50 both of Carbondale, were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
Police said Crista Urda was driving the 2017 BMW northbound when it traveled to the left and struck a concrete barrier, then traveled back across the two lanes of travel and struck the concrete jersey barriers on the shoulder of the road.
• Police were summoned to a mishap at the toll booth area of the Mahoning Valley Interchange, East Penn Township, at 1:02 p.m. Oct. 14. They said it happened when a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro operated by Paul T. Barycki, 34, of Springfield, approached the tolling area and traveled to the right in order to exit through lane No. 5, at which time its passenger-side front fender struck the driver’s side of a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was driven by Michael A. Altomare, 64 of Pennsburg. Police said he was committed in the lane in order to exit lane No. 5. After impact, both vehicles came to a controlled stop in the parking lot adjacent to the plaza.
Police said Barycki was issued a warning for “turning movements and required signals.”
• Police said a 2018 Toyota RAV4 driven by Sandra J. Fassett, 77, of Shickshinny, struck debris that was left in the road from a previous crash at mile marker 82.2 in Penn Forest Township. It happened at 7:54 p.m. Oct. 7. Police said the RAV4 struck the debris with its right front-end and came to rest on the right shoulder of the road. Fassett was uninjured.
• Police charged Brandon Lee, 34, of Philadelphia, is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop they conducted at 7:56 a.m. Oct. 6 in Franklin Township. They said he was driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata at 89 mph in a 70 mph zone, prompting the stop, after which time police said they learned the vehicle displayed a fictitious registration plate identifying it as private. They said Lee covered up the VIN umber on the front dashboard of the car.
It was further determined he did not possess a valid driver’s license and the vehicle was not register or insured.
Lee is charged with disorderly conduct, maximum speed limits, vehicle not registered, no insurance, fraudulent use of a registration plate and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
