State police at Hazleton
State police at the Hazleton barracks have reported on several incidents that police responded to recently. They include:
• A 41-year-old Lansford man was charged with retail theft (shoplifting) after police were called to the Walmart store, Airport Road, Hazle Township, at 11:40 p.m. Sept. 5. Police said he was taken into custody after trying to steal clothes, plants and household goods valued at $83.52.
• Police said items valued at $3,340 were reported stolen from LTG Cigars Inc., McAdoo, in a theft that was reported at 1:32 p.m. Sept. 18. The company is located on the Tresckow Road in Banks Township.
Stolen were three Microsoft Surface 9 laptops, each valued at $1,000, and two Microsoft docking stations worth $170 each.
• Police said about $8,000 worth of diesel fuel was stolen from a construction site in the Humboldt Industrial Park in Hazle Township.
The theft was reported at 8 a.m. Oct. 3 by a representative of the victim, Muschlitz Excavating of Bath. Police said they were told about 1,600 gallons of fuel was stolen between 9:30 a.m. Sept. 29 and 7 a.m. Oct. 2.
• David Meyers, 58, of Hazleton, was cited for scattering rubbish after police responded to an incident at 8:39 a.m. Aug. 8 off the Kline Road West in Banks Township.
Police said a 51-year-old man from Conyngham who reported Meyers drove his pickup to the location and began discarding large broken slabs of concrete into the woods.
• Police arrested Luis Lopez-Rivera, 54, of Shenandoah, for scattering rubbish after they were called to an area near Jeansville Road and North Chestnut Street in Banks Township at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
Police said it is alleged he disposed of approximately 10 contractor-size garbage bags that contained residential drywall.
• A 69-year-old Tresckow man reported someone stole a black, 4-by-6-foot utility trailer from the tree line behind his residence on South Parkview Drive in Banks Township.
The theft occurred between 11 p.m. Aug. 10 and 5 a.m. Aug. 11.
• Benjamin Clark, 34, of Lehighton, was cited for harassment by physical contact after police were called to 6 Scotch Pine Drive, Hazle Township, at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 1.
Police said a 41-year-old Drums man was struck in the head with a large wafer used in the manufacturing of Kit Kat bars at the men’s place of employment.
• A 37-year-old White Haven man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police were called at 11:31 p.m. Sept. 7 to the Walmart store, 761 Airport Road, Hazle Township.
Police said they were beckoned there for a report of a man sleeping in a 2012 Chrysler Sebring. Police said they suspected the man to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Illegal substances were found inside the vehicle, resulting in the man being taken into custody.
