A landmark structure in Mahoning Township has received a liquor license following a public hearing.

Supervisors on Wednesday unanimously approved the intermunicipal transfer of a liquor license from Lansford to “Circa 1898” LLC, located at 2186 Mahoning Drive West.

The liquor license transfer is from the Half Time Bar & Grill at The Zoo, 390 W. Snyder Ave., Lansford to “Circa 1898.”

“Circa 1898” is the location of the former Broney’s Hotel at the intersection of Route 902 and Mill Road in the village of New Mahoning.

Last month, supervisors unanimously agreed to ratify the advertisement to schedule a hearing for the intermunicipal transfer of liquor license to Dean Bartholomew.

The application was received by “Circa 1898” LLC, the applicant, to transfer a restaurant liquor license into the township.

Bartholomew sought an intermunicipal transfer of a license from Lansford Borough to its location at 2186 Mahoning Drive West.

In May, Cindy Gasper, one of the investors in the 125-year-old structure, approached township supervisors about getting a historic building designation for the former Broney’s Hotel.

Gasper said she previously applied to the Pennsylvania Historic & Museum Commission about a year ago, and they are awaiting the building to be at least 75% complete before their decision to put them on the state registry as a historical landmark.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw said at that time it would come with a cost, and asked whether the township wanted to spend taxpayer money.

Gasper told the board she would have no problem donating the money.

After the May meeting, Gasper said the structure will be converted into a restaurant called “Circa 1898.”

She added that a portion in the back will be a small cafe, and that eventually, her cousin, Craig Brophy, wants to put a winery/distillery in there.

Gasper said the investors include several members of her family, and that she and her brother, Bartholomew, are the primary owners of the building.
