Palmerton’s Conner Hibell ran to a first place in a Colonial League cross country meet Tuesday, while Northwestern field hockey player Cara Thomas hit a milestone by scoring her 100th goal.

The Tigers posted wins in field hockey and volleyball, while their girls cross country team went 3-0.

FIELD HOCKEY

Bangor-Northwestern

Cara Thomas scored her 100th career goal to help Northwestern gain a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Thomas tallied in the opening quarter to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead before second-quarter goals by Olivia Costa and Hannah Gober extended the advantage.

Carsyn Van Norman capped the scoring in the fourth frame for Northwestern, who also received an assist from Amelia Birch.

The win lifts the Tigers to 10-3-1 overall and 9-2 in the league.

Palisades-Palmerton

Celeste Hoffman, Sydney Frantz and Ali Green all scored two goals to power Palmerton to a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

Cate Morgan also tallied for the Blue Bombers, who received a pair of assists from Skylar Kohler.

Hoffman added an assists, while goalie Sarah Sabo made four saves.

Palmerton, now 9-4 overall and 8-3 in the league, finished with 40 shots on goal and 22 corners.

Northern Lehigh-Saucon Vy.

Saucon Valley made a first-period goal stand up as the Panthers earned a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Ashley Rostkowski tallied at the 5:52 mark of the opening period off an assist from Madi Kares for what proved to be the game’s only tally.

Saucon finished with a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal in dropping the Bulldogs to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-ES South

East Stroudsburg South shut out Pleasant Valley 3-0 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Nora Kirkpatrick scored twice for the Cavaliers, while Samantha Rogers also tallied.

Goalie Maria Altemose registered eight saves for the Bears, who dropped to 1-12-2 overall and 1-9-2 in the EPC.

VOLLEYBALL

Williams Vy.-Panther Vy.

The winning ways continued for Panther Valley, who swept Williams Valley 25-11, 25-11, 25-13 in Schuylkill League action.

Riley McArdle collected 12 kills, three digs and two aces to lead the Panthers, who remain undefeated at 14-0 overall and 10-0 in the league.

The winners also received 11 assists from Abby Benack and two aces from Kylah Pinckney.

Panther Valley also won the JV match, 2-0.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Lehighton improved to 8-5 after gaining a 25-14, 26-24, 25-12 Schuylkill League sweep of Pine Grove.

Amanda Burns had 12 kills for the Indians, while Lorah Thomas added nine kills and five blocks.

The winners, now 6-2 in the league, also received 28 assists from Autumn Clewell and 24 digs and a pair of aces from Lyla Kershner.

Also contributing to the victory were Vera Hartsell (five kills, four digs, two aces) and McKenna Snyder (six kills, four digs).

Lehighton also won the JV match in two sets.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

In a key Schuylkill League Division 1 matchup, Pottsville gained a 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 victory over Jim Thorpe.

JaeLynn Browdy had eight kills, 10 assists and eight digs for the Olympians, who were hoping to hand the Crimson Tide their first loss.

Thorpe, now 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the league, also received 16 assists and six digs from Maggy Hallihan, while Brianna Snisky finished with seven kills and two blocks.

Kelsey Patton chipped in with four kills.

Northwestern-Allen

Bailey Murray had 11 kills and 12 digs to help Northwestern gain a 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 non-league sweep over Allen.

Kylie Nagle finished with 20 digs, four kills and four assists for the Tigers, while Shannon Green contributed 34 assists and two aces.

The win upped Northwestern’s record to 10-6.

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill handled Tamaqua, sweeping the Blue Raiders 25-5, 25-13, 25-21 in Schuylkill League action.

Gabby Blasko had five kills and nine digs for Tamaqua, while Maddie Schock added eight assists, five digs and three kills.

The Raiders also received nine digs from Leah Black and four digs from Destini Denning.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 4-13 overall and 0-11 in the league.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Weatherly dropped a 25-9, 25-8, 25-8 Schuylkill League decision to Mahanoy Area.

Kelly Reiner had 10 digs for the Wreckers, who fell to 2-15 overall and 0-11 in the league.

Weatherly also received nine digs from Abby Weston.

Palmerton’s Connor Hibell took first place during a Colonial League meet in which the Blue Bombers went 1-1.

Hibell finished 42 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, crossing the finish line in 16:58.

The Northwestern boys also went 1-1 in the meet, with Xander Giandomenico taking fifth place.

The Tiger girls went a perfect 3-0 with Sophia Cornell placing second and Haley DuBois earning fourth.

Palmerton, who went 1-2 in the girls, meet received a sixth-place finish from Emma Rex.

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain blanked Lehighton 3-0 in a Schuylkill League contest.

The Eagles received first-half goals from Shawn Barry and Robert Antonio, while Ryan Mundy added an insurance tally in the second half.

Indian keeper Bryce Miller finished with 14 saves.

The win ups Blue Mountain’s overall record to 11-2 and keeps the Eagles perfect in the league at 9-0. Lehighton slipped to 8-6-1 and 4-5.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

Tamaqua dropped a 2-1 Schuylkill League decision to Pine Grove 2-1.

Cooper Ansbach scored the only goal for the Blue Raiders, with Jack Tharpe providing the assist.

Dane Hannevig registered both goals for the Cardinals.

Tamaqua goalie Kevin Bazan finished with nine saves.

The Raiders fell to 4-10 overall and 1-8 in the league.

Marian-Nativity

Jake Tom scored two goals for Marian, but the Colts fell to Nativity 8-2 in Schuylkill League action.

Tom’s tallies were assisted by Miguel Capellan and Nurdein Gjoca.

Nativity received four goals from both Michael Kodziela and Michael Quirk.

Marian goalie Jah Bushati finished with 22 saves.

The loss dropped the Colts to 1-12.

Weatherly-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill cruised to a 9-0 Schuylkill League win over visiting Weatherly.

Goalie Michael Davies made seven saves for the Wreckers, who fell to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the league.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bethlehem Catholic-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley dropped a 4-3 double overtime decision to Bethlehem Catholic.

Peyton Foder, Aryn Stivala and Morgan Ryals all scored goals for the Bears (6-9).

Stivala also had a pair of assists, while Hailey Klein added a helper.

PV keeper Sadie Rizzo finished with 15 saves.

JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL

Panther Valley-Palisades

Panther Valley improved to 3-2 recently with a 34-6 victory over Palisades.

Chase McArdle threw two touchdown passes and added a scoring run.

Carson Jones finished with a pair of touchdowns, one receiving and one on the ground. Other TDs were scored by Corrigan Crampsie and Xavier Villanueva, while a long run by Bekim Mehmeti set up one of one th scores.

PV also received strong defensive games from Brody Vermillion and Tyler Hall.
