Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 30
The Marian boys soccer team posted its first-ever victory after defeating Weatherly on Saturday.
BOYS SOCCER
Weatherly-Marian
Jake Tom scored four goals as Marian defeated Weatherly 5-2 for the Colts’ first victory in program history.
Miguel Capellan also scored for the Colts.
Alex Rosenlund scored both goals for the Wreckers, with Trent Higgins and Vincent Paisley picking up assists.
The Colts are now 1-11, while Weatherly sits at 0-9.
Jim Thorpe-No. Lehigh
Kayden Spence and Noah Geiser each had hat tricks to lead Jim Thorpe to a 7-4 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.
Spence and Geiser both added an assist to help the Olympians improve to 8-5.
Thorpe also received a goal and an assist from Henry Snyder, while Cael Heaney finished with a pair of helpers. Also adding assists were Ehren Hassler and Conor Holland.
Ethan Moore, Kellen Bauer, Logan Berfield and Chayce LoPinto all had goals for the Bulldogs, now 3-9-1.
U. Perkiomen-Northwestern
Matt Johnson scored both of his team’s goals as Northwestern edged Upper Perkiomen 2-1 in non-league action.
Tiger assists came from Logan Mesics and Nathan Kinzel, while goalie Brandon Krapf made three saves.
The win allowed Northwestern to keep its perfect record intact, moving to 15-0.
Tamaqua-Salisbury
Salisbury blanked Tamaqua 1-0 in a non-league contest.
Joshua Hudak scored the game’s only goal as the Falcons improved to 8-6.
For the Raiders (4-8), goalie Kevin Bazan made seven saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lehighton-ES South
Sadie Monk scored four goals in the opening half to help Lehighton roll to a 6-1 non-league victory over East Stroudsburg South.
Rhyleigh Walker added a goal and an assist, while the Indians also received a score from Charli McHugh.
Karissa Moyer finished with a pair of assists, while other helpers came from Morgan Myers and Mylee Lutsko.
Lehighton goalie Ciara Berhel made six saves for the Indians.
The Indians, winners of three straight, improved to 6-5 while the Cavaliers slipped to 3-11.
Northwestern-U. Perkiomen
Katie Brensinger and Brook Balliet both scored for Northwestern to give the Tigers a 2-1 non-league victory over Upper Perkiomen.
Cammy Fitch and Abby Pomajevich registered assists for the winners, who upped their mark to 14-1.
Northwestern goalie Olivia Reinhart finished with five saves.
Weatherly-Marian
Erin Prete scored four goals to lead Weatherly to a 4-1 non-league victory over Marian.
Kassandra Hibbler tallied Marian’s only goal, while keeper Maddie Kattner made 15 saves for the Fillies, who fell to 2-10.
The win lifted the Wreckers to 2-9.
Palmerton-Whitehall
Whitehall posted three goals in the opening half and cruised to a 5-0 none-league victory over Palmerton.
Ava Wells netted a pair of goals for the Zephyrs, who have won eight straight - all by shutout - and improved to 10-4.
The Blue Bombers, now 10-5, were outshot by a 20-7 margin.
FIELD HOCKEY
Crestwood-Palmerton
Crestwood blanked Palmerton 6-0 in non-league action.
Sarah Sabo recorded 14 saves for the Blue Bombers, now 8-4.
Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.
Ava O’Connor had a hat trick to help Stroudsburg gain a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.
Cameron Brancato also tallied for the Mounties, now 7-5-1, while Grace Staples registered a pair of assists.
The Bears (1-10-2) received 16 saves from goalie Maria Altemose.
VOLLEYBALL
Palmerton at
Marian Invitational
Palmerton and Executive Education took part in Marian’s Homecoming Invitational.
The host Fillies finished 2-0 in their matches, while the Blue Bombers dropped both their matches.
Marian swept both Palmerton 25-8, 25-11, 25-9 and Executive 25-9, 25-6, 25-10, while the Bombers also fell 14-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 to the Raptors.
Abbey Kluck paced the Fillies with 31 kills and 35 digs. Julia Meiss finished with 68 assists, six digs and eight kills.
Marian also received key contributions from Isabella Horvat (15 digs, 10 kills, one assist), Zoe Katona (19 digs, three kills, two assists) and Megan Reaman (20 digs).
For Palmerton, Claire Thomas had six kills and 11 digs, while Emily Christopher added 14 digs and Hailey Barry had six aces.
Saucon Valley-Lehighton
Lehighton split its first two sets with Saucon Valley, but the Panthers eventually gained a 25-16, 22-25, 25-11, 25-14 non-league victory.
Lora Thomas finished with 12 kills, four blocks and three digs for the Indians, while Lyla Kerschner added 34 digs.
Also contributing for Lehighton were Amanda Burns (nine kills, five digs), Autumn Clewell (20 assists), Jocelynn Kuhn (six kills, two blocks), and Makenna Snyder (seven digs, four kills).
The Indians are now 7-5, with the Panthers improving to 5-6.
Weatherly-Salem Christian
Salem swept Weatherly 25-14, 25-17, 25-9 in non-league action.
Kelly Reiner had nine digs, and Taylor Davidovich finished with eight for the Wreckers, who fell to 1-14.
Salem improved to 8-6.
CROSS COUNTRY
Tamaqua at
NEPA Invitational
Tamaqua participated in the NEPA Invitational at Bloomsburg University.
The Raider boys placed fourth in the team standings, while the girls finished ninth.
In the boys race, Tamaqua’s Anthony Marchetti recorded a team-best 23rd place.
Bailey Pliska was the top Raider in the girls race, placing 50th.
