Two students to be charged after police respond to stabbing at ESU housing unit

Two 19-year-old East Stroudsburg University students will be charged with aggravated assault after state police at the Stroudsburg barracks were summoned at 6:11 a.m. Saturday to the Ridge Apartments, Smithfield Township, for a stabbing incident.

Police said the students engaged in a fight that occurred around 5:30, resulting in each of them sustaining non-life-threatening stab wounds. Police said they were transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, before police arrived at the scene.

The charges will be filed after consultation with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, police said.

They also said the incident is an isolated one and there is no threat to the student, faculty and surrounding community members.
