Local roundup: Results from Sept. 27
The Lehighton volleyball and boys soccer teams each registered wins on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the Tamaqua boys and girls continued their strong seasons with another impressive performance, while the Northwestern volleyball team extended its winning streak.
BOYS SOCCER
Lincoln Leadership-Lehighton
Lehighton routed Lincoln Leadership 7-1 in a non-league match.
Jacob Anthony scored three goals and Jaxon Anthony had a pair for the Indians, who won their fifth straight and moved to 8-5 on the season.
With the loss, Lincoln Leadership sank to 2-5.
Tamaqua-North Schuylkill
North Schuylkill shut out Tamaqua 4-0 in Schuylkill League play.
Jordan Bowers netted two goals to help the Spartans move above the .500 mark with a 7-6 record.
Kevin Bazan secured seven saves for the Blue Raiders, who lost its fourth straight and dropped to 4-7.
Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
Blue Mountain turned back Jim Thorpe for a 6-3 win in Schuylkill League action.
R. Antonini scored twice for the Eagles (10-1) in the second half. A. Waskko, Ryan Mundy, Shawn Batory and Aiden Fogerty also had goals for Blue Mountain, which has now won seven straight matches.
Cael Heaney had a hat trick for the Olympians (7-5), who trailed 2-1 at halftime. Noah Geiser, Kayden Spence and Ehren Hassler had assists.
VOLLEYBALL
No. Schuylkill-Lehighton
Lehighton held off North Schuylkill, 25-15, 25-11, 25-23 in a Schuylkill League match.
Autumn Clewell had 27 assists, Lyla Kershner chipped in 16 digs and two aces, and Lorah Thomas added nine kills, five digs and four aces for the Indians, who upped their mark to 7-4. Also contributing to the win were Vera Hartsell and Amanda Burns (seven kills apiece); Makenna Snyder (five kills, five digs), and Jocelyn Kuhn (five kills, two blocks).
Lehighton also won the JV match, 2-0.
Northwestern-Blue Mountain
Northwestern won its fourth straight with a 3-1 win over Blue Mountain in non-league action.
Shannon Green dished out 52 assists and recorded 20 digs for the Tigers (8-6). Norah Silfies added 11 kills, five blocks and two aces, Bailey Murray recorded 11 kills and 15 digs, and Kylie Nagle finished with 29 digs and four aces.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Catasauqua edged Palmerton for a 23-25, 25-10, 25-27, 25-18, 17-15 Colonial League win.
Claire Thomas had six kills and six aces for the Bombers (3-12), while Sadie Gair added 16 assists.
CROSS COUNTRY
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton-Tamaqua at Blue Mountain
The Tamaqua boys and girls both went 3-0 in a Schuylkill League meet at Blue Mountain.
Levi Kunkel placed second in the boys meet, while Tony Marchetti placed fourth.
In the girls meet, Alexis Buchala finished third and Bailey Pliska fifth for Tamaqua.
Aubrey Bonner paced the Jim Thorpe girls with a runner-up finish, while Elijah Pagotto placed fifth for the Lehighton boys.

Pleasant Valley’s Marty Green finished 10th in 18:20 as the Bears went 1-2 in the boys meet Tuesday.
Keeley Lawrence was Pleasant Valley’s top finisher in 23rd place, posting a time of 24:16 in the girls meet.

Shelby Haldeman tallied a pair of goals for the Rough Riders, who improved to 5-7.
Daisy Richards had seven saves for Northern Lehigh, which slipped to 1-11 overall.
GIRLS SOCCER
Northern Lehigh-Southern Lehigh
Southern Lehigh edged Northern Lehigh 3-2 in a Colonial League battle.
Victoria Hannah and Katelyn Barthold scored goals for the Bulldogs, who suffered their second straight defeat and slipped to 9-3 overall.
With the win, Southern Lehigh pushed its record to 9-5.
PM East-Pleasant Vy.
Pocono Mountain knocked off Pleasant Valley 3-1 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.
Campbell Demarest recorded a pair of goals for the Cardinals (4-9).
Juliette Trout scored on an assist from Sysalit Banks for the Bears (6-8). Sadie Rizzo had 13 saves.
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
Panther Valley-Minersville
Bekim Mehmeti scampered 47 yards for a touchdown on the game’s opening play from scrimmage and then added a go-ahead 85(-)yard TD burst in the third quarter to lead Panther Valley to a 20-8 victory over Minersville.
Chase McArdle added a one-yard TD plunge to help put the game away in the fourth quarter.
On the defensive side, McArdle and Carson Jones each had interceptions for the Panthers.
