Local roundup: Results from Sept. 26
The Northwestern and Palmerton boys and girls soccer teams recorded wins on Tuesday. The Tigers and Bombers also had success in cross country action,
Elsewhere, the Marian and Panther Valley volleyball teams each posted victories.
BOYS SOCCER
Northwestern-Bangor
Two first-half goals were all Northwestern needed to stay unbeaten with a 2-0 Colonial League victory over Bangor.
Caelan Stangil posted the game’s first goal three minutes into the contest for the Tigers (13-0 overall; 10-0 CL), while Jacob van Lierop added the other score with seven minutes to go to half. Jack Mauro had an assist, while Brandon Krapf recorded two saves for the shutout.
Christian Fekete made 23 saves for the Slaters, who dropped to 7-4-1 and 6-2-1 on the season.
Northern Lehigh-Moravian
Moravian Academy rolled to a 6-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Saleem Diakite led the Lions (8-2 overall; 7-2 CL) with two goals, while George Husack ended up with a goal and an assist. Selman Eris, Hasan Strandzhev and Rowan Watson also scored.
James Stock posted 14 saves for the Bulldogs, which also included stopping a penalty kick.
Northern Lehigh slipped to 3-6-1 overall (1-6-1 CL), while Moravian Academy improved to 8-2 (7-2) on the season.
Catasauqua-Palmerton
Palmerton knocked off Catasauqua for a 2-1 win in Colonial League action.
Colton Ruzicka and Devlin Moyzan accounted for the two goals for the Bombers (4-9 overall; 2-6 CL), while both AJ Borger and Brody Wells recorded assists.
Dillon Lombardi finished with 10 saves to record the shutout.
Catty fell to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Tamaqua-Pine Grove
Nate Frankenfield’s hat trick helped Pine Grove top Tamaqua 7-2 in Schuylkill League play.
With the win, the Cardinals snap a three-game losing streak and move to 8-3 on the season.
Wyatt Steigerwalt and Jason Walker scored both of the Blue Raiders’ (4-6) goals, while Jack Tharpe added an assist.

The Northwestern boys raced their way to a perfect 5-0 mark, and Palmerton’s Connor Hibell ran to a first-place finish in Colonial League action.
Hibell posted a winning time of 16:53.14, almost a minute ahead of the Tigers’ Xander Giadomenico in second place. Northwestern’s Sean Kershner finished fifth as the Tigers improved to 14-3.
Sophia Cornell led the way for the Tigers in the girls meet, as Northwestern went 4-1 and moved to 13-4. Cornell posted an area best with a seventh-place finish. Emma Heil placed eighth for the Bulldogs, while Emma Rex was 16th for the Bombers.

Bangor-Northwestern
Northwestern quickly rebounded from its weekend non-conference loss to shut out Bangor 3-0 to remain unbeaten in Colonial League action.
Alexis Kercher, Cammy Fitch and Brook Balliet all scored for the Tigers, who improved to 12-1 overall and 9-0 in the CL.
Katie Brensinger followed with two assists, while Sophia Schaffer had one. Olivia Reinhart posted two saves to secure the shutout.
The Slaters dropped to 3-7-1 and 2-6 on the season.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Nataly Walters had a hat trick to help Palmerton post a 5-2 win over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.
Aubrey Frable and Riley Gerhard also scored for the Bombers (9-4), while Ella Baumgardt, Hadlee Lake and Hannah Barry had assists.
Moravian-Northern Lehigh
Moravian Academy topped Northern Lehigh 1-0 in Colonial League play.
Haley Sasso scored the only goal for the Lions (6-5).
Dekota Barthold made 13 saves for the Bulldogs (9-2).
Tri-Valley-Weatherly
Tri-Valley cruised past Weatherly 9-0 in Schuylkill League play.
Imani Grimm led the Bulldogs (7-5) with three goals.
Kendall Gerhart made 14 saves for the Wreckers (1-7).
VOLLEYBALL
Panther Vy.-Sch. Haven
Panther Valley stayed unbeaten with a 25-21, 25-10, 25-17 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.
Riley McArdle paced the Panthers (10-0 overall; 8-0 SL) with 18 kills, eight digs, two aces and one block.
Caroline Breslin (15 digs, four aces) and Natalie Vermillion (eight digs, five kills, three aces) also contributed to the winning effort.
Marian-Tri-Valley
Marian bounced back from a pair of tough losses with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 victory over Tri-Valley.
Julia Meiss had 27 assists and eight digs, while Abbey Kluck recorded 19 kills and 11 digs for the Fillies (9-4).
Isabella Horvat and Megan Reaman each had nine digs, and Alena Lombardo put up seven kills.
Weatherly-Nativity
Nativity won in straight sets to score a 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 victory over Weatherly.
Rachel Rosenlund led the way for the Wreckers (1-12 overall; 0-8 SL) with 24 assists, eight digs and three service points, while Taylor Davidovich added 16 assists, four digs and three service points.
Kelly Reiner had six service points, five digs and three kills, and Abby Weston added five blocks and four digs for Weatherly.
Blue Mountain-Tamaqua
Blue Mountain swept Tamaqua 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 in a Schuylkill League match.
Senior Gabby Blasko had three kills and three digs, while sophomore Leah Black added four digs and two kills for the Blue Raiders (4-11). Senior Lacey Beers had eight digs, and freshman Maddie Schock had five assists, two aces, two kills and one dig.
Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven
Schuylkill Haven needed an extra set but came away with a 25-12, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9 win over Tamaqua on Monday.
Sarah Coccio led the way for the Blue Raiders with five kills, four aces and one dig, while Leah Black chipped in with 12 digs and four kills.
Lacey Beers had 14 digs and one ace, Maddie Schock added 13 assists, one ace and one kill, Destini Denning finished with 11 digs and Gabby Blasko had 10 digs and six kills for Tamaqua.
FIELD HOCKEY
Whitehall-Pleasant Valley
Whitehall posted a 2-0 win over Pleasant Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.
Audra Sommer and Kerigan Dreisbach both scored goals for the Zephyrs (4-5-1). Olivia Fonzone and Ava Kozak also added assists.
Maria Altemose made seven saves for the Bears (1-8-2).
