Pleasant Valley records fourth straight win
Pleasant Valley pounced on the East Stroudsburg North Timberwolves early and followed it up with a 21-point third quarter to win 42-13.
The Bears won the team’s fourth straight game Friday night and PV once again brought the big run game to the Timberwolves (1-4).
“Playing them the past years and it was running through it,” Pleasant Valley head coach Blaec Saeger said. “This year, it was without a doubt in the football game. We couldn’t stop them in the first half. I give them a lot of credit, but at halftime, we figured some things out and it really wasn’t X’s and O’s. It was our kids getting a little more prepared and focused. We came out and they did turn the ball over a couple times, made some mistakes and we were able to capitalize.”
Pleasant Valley senior quarterback Valentino-Byers Robinson scored two rushing touchdowns.
“It was just a hard-fought game, especially with the whole line,” Byers-Robinson said. “They work tremendously hard every single week and I always put my trust in them. My wings, they always want the ball. I get the ball out, they’re my play makers. It makes my life easier. (Running back Alex) Ecker makes my life easier with those two touchdowns. That offensive game is insane. Defense, we just had to pick it up in the second half. Our first half wasn’t the best that we’ve been, but second half we picked it up and force turnovers.”
The Bears got on the board first with a nine-yard touchdown run by senior Dakoda Lucas to go up 7-0 with 6:40 left in the first quarter.
Pleasant Valley got 14 more points in the first half to lead 21-6 at halftime.
Ecker rushed 23 times for 155 yards and scored two touchdowns, already adding on to an impressive senior season. Pleasant Valley recovered fumbles that put the Bears in prime position to score.
A rough night for the Timberwolves allowed Pleasant Valley to capitalize on mistakes and two big runs by Byers-Robinson and Blake Walters in the third quarter made it a 42-6 game with 2:53 left.
“A lot of that was them handing it to us and mistakes, but our guys capitalized,” Saeger said. “We continue to run the ball well and do what we do.”
Pleasant Valley grabs a fourth straight win heading into next Friday’s game at home against the Pocono Mountain West Panthers, who are on a three-game winning streak heading into Brodheadsville.
NOT FINISHED ... Senior quarterback Valentino-Byers Robinson rushed eight times for 67 yards against the Timberwolves and scored the two touchdowns. “Senior season is not done,” Byers-Robinson said. “We’re still on a journey and trying to get that EPC North and District title that we always want. We got a lot of very good opponents ahead of us, but we’re just going to work and grind out. Pretty much, our season’s starting right now.”
RETURNING TO ES NORTH ... Pleasant Valley head coach Blaec Saeger is very familiar with playing at East Stroudsburg North and although the 42-13 win was good for Saeger and the Bears, he understands how the place can be when it comes to playing on the field. “I was here for 14 years and coached a lot of games on this field,” Saeger said. “I know making this trip is long. It’s out in the middle of nowhere and you hear the crickets sometimes. You’re in the middle of the forest. It is a difficult place to play. We came out a little flat, but I give North a lot of credit. They played really well in that first half. Our kids kind of figured things out a little bit and flexed their muscles in the second half.”
