Community Day takes flight at Ross Township park

The Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road was bustling with activity on Saturday afternoon, as residents and guests gathered for the annual Ross Township Community Day.

“It was real busy when Cartesion Dance Academy was here. They brought a crowd with them. I handed out 40 hot dogs in that hour,” said James Zahoroiko, chairman of the Ross Township supervisors.

He and Vice Chairman David Shay handed out free hot dogs to attendees at a picnic table under the pavilion. Behind them, musician Ally Brown played for the crowd.

When she took a break, approximately 30 dancers from Cartesion Dance Academy performed for the crowd.

Cynthia Burger, owner of the dance academy, and her daughters, Anistyn and Brielle, stayed after the dance performance to take in all the event’s activities and have some popcorn.

“I thought it was a great turnout. The weather was perfect. We can always use more volunteers for the Ross Township Park committee,” said Eric Longenbach, a park committee member, as he scooped fresh popcorn from the machine.

Along the sidewalks by the playground, various community organizations and vendors including Girl Scouts, Rep. Jack Rader, Western Pocono Community Library, Laura’s Cupcakes, St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services, and the Ross Township Historical Society handed out information and greeted guests.

Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder firefighters helped kids and parents soar above the park. They were harnessed in and sitting in a stretcher for the ride.

There were crafts and games for the kids, and many enjoyed the slides, swings and monkey bars on the playground.

Zahoroiko complimented Brown and the vendors.

“Her performance was great, and the vendors had a lot to sell or share with the crowd,” he said.
